We had our first day together as a team, with most of the guys getting into Chicago this afternoon. We were able to have a little intrasquad scrimmage to see where we are at as a team, and where people will be playing. The players have settled in with their host families, and the families have enjoyed hosting our players so far.
We will have two practices on Saturday, and then will have a practice on Sunday as well. Sunday we will be attending church with our host families, and will be joined by them, and other members of our host church for a dessert event, and meet and greet with our players. That will be a great time to connect with the community that will be supporting us as we stay here in Chicago.
Monday and Tuesday will bring us some scrimmages against some smaller local colleges, and also some former players from the inner city public schools here in Chicago. Monday we will be at Marshall High School in the inner part of Chicago, then will travel to the Moody Bible Institute for a scrimmage and some devotionals. These two days will really focus on using basketball as a ministry tool, especially in the inner city. It will be preparing us in sharing our faith in Christ, through basketball, with the people of Colombia.
I will post more details about what we're doing as things go along. Please continue to pray for us as we minister here in Chicago, and then later in Colombia. Also, pray for our continued health of our team, and also that we are growing closer to one another as an AIA team.
Here are some pictures from today:
This is the home that the coaching staff is staying at during our time in Chicago.
This is my room, complete with a bathroom. (Each coach and leadership team member has their own room and bathroom!) This house is amazing, and we are so blessed to be able to use it during our time here.
